Bubble glass medals are unique and highly collectible pieces of sacramental jewelry dating back to the early 1900's which feature a devotional image set in silver or gold encased beneath a dome of protective bubble glass. The bubble creates a magnifying effect which highlights the sacred image beneath, adding a distinctive aesthetic. Our recent find, a very rare and beautifully preserved antique scapular medal from France has a detailed image of Jesus and his Sacred Heart with what appears to be a tiny jeweler's hallmark beneath the image on one side and Our Lady of Mount Carmel on the reverse side. The petite 3/8-inch medal is set in sterling silver with a scalloped edge and is protected with light blue bubble glass. This historic and intricate faithfilled medal is displayed on a 16-inch, 1.15 mm, sterling silver cable chain.
