St. Joan of Arc, heroine and patron Saint of France, is revered for her faithfulness and courage. The daughter of peasant farmers, born in 1412, during the Hundred Years War, on the feast of the Epiphany, Joan was illiterate, but deeply faithful. At the age of 14, she began hearing the voices of Michael the Archangel and other saints, telling her she had a mission to save France. With the backing of King Charles VII, she marched into battle with a banner proclaiming the names of Jesus and Mary and within 10 days, she broke the siege. Despite an arrow wound, her leadership regained much of France.

Joan went on to lead a bold attack on Paris, but from then on found no success in her military quests. She was wounded again in battle, captured by soldiers from Burgundy and sold to England where she was tried as a witch. Condemned and denounced, Joan was handed over for punishment as a heretic and was burned at the stake, still a teenager, on May 30, 1430.

We honor her faith and courage on her feast day today offering a special 5/8-inch, shield-shaped antique gold-tone two-sided medal from France featuring a beautiful image of Our Lady of Grace surrounded by the words, O Marie Concue Sans Peche Priez Pour Nous, O Mary Conceived Without  Sin Pray for Us on one side and a striking full body depiction of St. Joan of Arc wearing armor and holding a banner with the words, Bienheureuse Jeanne D’Arc Priez Pour Nous, Blessed Joan of Arc Pray For Us, on the other side. The delicate antiquity is strung on a 16-inch, 1.15 mm, gold over sterling silver cable chain.

Pray to St Joan for her intercession for all those, in all countries, who fight for true freedom.
