On July 16, 1251, St. Simon, a Carmelite priest, was leading a group to the Holy Land and stopped to pray on Mount Carmel. During that prayer that Mary appeared to St. Simon. In this apparition, Mary is known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She appeared holding Jesus as a child in one arm. On her other arm, she held a scapular, a long piece of sleeveless cloth worn by the Carmelite religious order. She promised that all those who wear this cloth and follow Christ faithfully would be brought by into heaven at their deaths.

In 1910, Pope St. Pius X introduced the scapular medal, a sacramental  which may be substituted for the cloth scapulars in most cases. Increase your devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel wearing a very special, signed, antique, Virgo Carmeli Ora Pro Me scapular medal crafted in sterling silver. The detailed devotional from France is titled Scapulare and signed by late nineteenth century engraver, Tairac.  On the opposite side, a  striking haloed image of Jesus and his Sacred Heart offers a reminder of Christ's sacrifice and love for humanity.  A beautiful 18-inch, 1.8 mm, sterling silver rolo chain complements the medal that is perfect to wear two ways.

"The Scapular is a practice of piety . . .  suited to everyone . . . a habit of prayer and a sign of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary." -  Pope Pius XII
